When I was in college I took Deaf Culture and Sign Language. I remember our first day in class. We had an interpreter. At the end of class we were told via sign language that the interpreter would no longer be a part of class. You see, our Instructor was deaf. It was a most exciting thing to be able to learn first hand of the deaf and their culture, for they indeed have one. They are most comfortable without sound, but I found this video that shows an 8 month old with a cochlear ear implant which allows sound to be heard. I just wanted to share the short vid with you, as after having taken all those classes, I came out a much richer person. Enjoy this child's reactions at his first experience of sound. But also applaud all those who chose not to have this done, for they are comfortable with their life as it is, not have the implant for they have learned to live without sound and are some of the happiest and loving people you shall ever meet.

My brother is deaf, he has 30% hearing I and he does really well and has a job. I always am amazed at kids who are deaf and blind some are awesome and overcome so much and we whine about so many things. Its a real grounding experience spending time with kids and people like this.
