Today I was fed up so I decided to keep myself occupied and make some smudge bundles.
What I like to do is to get all my herbs together , the ones that I want to use. I also like to use my working candle when I make them. Everytime I prepare my herbs or my oils for crafting things in magick I light it.
You are also going to want thread , or string..I use biodegradable green string as it just looks nicer and also green is a good colour as it means money, luck, prosperity, emotional healing, protection. You also need your fresh herbs and some sharp scissors. I got the herbs from my garden this morning but I had to buy a pot of rosemary as mine was dead in my garden.
The herbs that I decided to use today are listed below with their meaning and you will then see why I decided to ue them:
Rosemary: Protection, Love, Mental Powers, Purification, Healing and Sleep.
When burnt it emits powerful cleansing and purifying vibrations , and so is smouldered to rid a place of negativity.
Mint: Money, Healing, Travel, protection and Happiness.
Mint has long been used in healing potions and mixtures. It also promotes happiness.
Sage: Longevity,Wisdom, Protection, Wishes and purification.
Carried to promote wisdom. The leaves can be used for healing and many spells. It is great for clearing bad energy from your home if burnt.
Thyme: Healing, Courae, Divination and Love.
Is burnt to attract good health...Used in healing spells. Thyme is a purification herb and greeks burnt it in their temples to purify them so Thyme is often burnt prior to magickal rituals to cleanse the area.
Curry Plant: Protection.
Burn the herb to keep evil influences away.
Lavender: Love, Protection, Sleep, Purification, happiness , Peace and Relaxation.
When burnt promotes peace and happiness.
So get all your herbs together. I try to cut them into the same length if possible, I find if you do that it's a little bit easier to handle them.
Get the thread ready, always have a little bit hanging when you start so you can know it once you have wrapped the herbs.
Grab the herbs together in a bundle and start to wind the thread around them...You have to wind it pretty tight as when they dry they do tend to loose a bit of their volume...So wrap it pretty tight. I am using green thread because it is emotionally healing and it can also be used for protection. Keep sqeezing and wrapping the thread, winding and winding. When you get to one end I double back but not as spaced together as before. When I get back to the start I get the loose thread that was left at the start and tie three knots..By the power of the Maiden, By the power of the Mother and By the power of the Crone. This is represented by the three knots.
I then trim the excess leaves that ar hanging out to make the bundle tidy.
You then put them away safe, and let them dry..they are amazing when they are fresh the smell is wonderful....After they have dried you can use them for the smoke when you feel you want to energize or cleanse your house or energies around you, or for protection, for your magick too..They can be used for many many things. These smudge bundles make great gifts, for Yule or any Sabat...with each Sabat their are herbs associated with it and if they are ok to burn ...........as remember some can be poisonous to breath in etc......You can make sabat ones up and give them as gifts.
I hope you have all enjoyed my post today about making smudge bundles. I love to make my own magical things as they have so much more energy and power in them.
