I have had a request where someone has asked how you remain calm in a stressful situation. That’s a good question. It’s easy to be calm when everything is going well, right? Its easy to be calm when your by yourself, its easy to be calm on a mountain top somewhere away from human civilization and all those crazy humanoids, its easy. The challenge is when you are being asked to be calm and ‘Zen’ around all those crazy humanoids. That’s where the real challenge is.
So how do you act calm in a stressful situation, when someone around you is acting crazy, someone around you is acting improperly, someone around you is acting in a way that isn’t enlightened? It’s easy to be ‘Zen’ if everyone was acting enlightened.
One of the ways I work on that, and I can’t say I am able to do this all the time because this is a life long challenge and being calm in a stressful situation is going to go on for the rest of your life, that’s a challenge that never ends. I cant say I have mastered it perfectly but I’m working on it, everybody is.
One of the things you can do is remember that it is not quite as real as it seems. Its not quite as serious as it seems. Everyone thinks that everything is so serious and personal, its not personal, its not about you. When someone is acting badly around you its probably not about you at all. You may be reflecting something to them that they don’t like about themselves, you may be doing something that they don’t particularly like but for the most part what you are doing might not even be wrong. But when you are challenged to remain calm around a stressful situation one of the best routes to take is to remember that it’s not so serious. Its not that bigger deal. Let the other person act how they are acting, let the other person do what they are doing. This is what they have to do; this is how they react in certain situations.
How you react is what you can control and you can react by not reacting at all and that’s how you can stay calm in a stressful situation. Maybe its not even about another person maybe it that you just have too much to do, the kids going to school, work situations, health, the car doesn’t work, you could pile it on and on, there could be a whole pile of stuff on top of you making a stressful situation but if you remember that its just a passing experience …’This too shall pass’ ….If you just remember that you can stay calm, you can stay Zen, you don’t have to get all freaked out, you don’t have to get all angry or grumpy, easier said than done I admit. If it was easy we would all be calm in a stressful situation at all times.
Just remember ‘This too shall pass’ its not a permanent situation Its not something that goes on forever and if you can look at it that way it makes it easier to stay calm in a stressful situation knowing that its not permanent its just another comings and goings in the arena they call consciousness . So just breathe it out and let it be alright whatever is going on just let it be alright. It doesn’t even have to be different then you will find that you are calm even when the storms rage around you. And a lot of people are going to ask you exactly how are you doing that? Tell me your secret?
This is how you lead by example, and teach by example rather than words.
