Now this particular event happened in my old home town of Independence, Missouri. (one of the many reasons why I do not claim to have been born there...)
In a suburban community which has a large pond that the houses surround, a man had bought and placed in his yard near the shore line a concrete decorative alligator. He placed it there to keep children out of his yard and the water.
Some children in the neighborhood snuck into his back yard to play in the lake, saw the alligator and ran to tell mom. Mom proceeds to call the Police. Three Police Officers arrived, saw the alligator and then shot several times at the concrete alligator trying to kill it.
The owner was quoted as saying,"The officer fired two rounds, and killed my concrete, ornamental alligator." Needless to say, the Police were red-faced. The good news is the concrete alligator survived.
