First I would like to start by saying, in my personal belief system, we have a Animal Guides and Animal Totems. My definition of Animal Totems are those animals which are part of our internal make up. They embody what we like and dislike about ourselves and others. It represents certain facets of who we are.
An Animal Guide is a guide that is who we are in our most deepest aspect. Sometimes it may even portray certain personality traits that are associated with us. But then again I state, this is just my personal belief.
What I am about to give is a good way to find your personal Animal Guide. Now some of you who try this, will sometimes identify or see one or more animals, this could be your totems. If however, you only become attuned to only one, that is probably your Animal Guide.
I suggest you start this exercise with some deep breathing exercises. After this, you will need to ground and protect. I am going on with the practice with the idea, that you know the breathing exercises and grounding and protection methods. If not, you may check the forum or contact me and I will explain further.
Now we will start:
You may lie down or sit comfortably in a chair, whatever you are most comfortable doing.
After your initial exercises explained above you will be in a very relaxed state, if not repeat the breathing exercises.
I would like you to visualize a most beautiful day...the sun is warm upon your skin as you turn your face up to the beautiful blue sky. It is very peaceful and quiet.
You are standing at the edge of a field of green lush grass scattered with wild flowers in every color of the rainbow. As you stand there feeling the sun and gazing at the serenity of the view in front of you, you notice a large, very old tree just off in the near distance of this beautiful meadow.
You feel drawn to this magnificent tree, as it has great knowledge that beckons you to slowly walk toward it. As you walk, enjoy the scent of the outdoors and the fresh smell of the air and flowers and grass.
As you walk toward the tree you start to feel as if you are familiar with it and have visited it many times before. It gives you comfort and a feeling of peace.
You have finally reached this enormous and beautiful tree. You slowly walk up to it and stand with your back against the trunk of the tree with your palms resting upon its bark. Feel the texture of the bark and become one with the tree as you look up into its many branches full of glistening green and healthy leaves. Just stand this way for a few minutes to feel your self connected with this tree that is connected to Mother Earth.
You slowly in the same position move around the tree until you notice, that before you, are more of nature opening herself up to you. On your left you see many large bushes and buried in the bushes is the peek of an opening to a cave. When you look to your right, you will see a grand forest of tall, leafy, green trees that goes into the distance. When you look forward you see a most beautiful gleaming blue body of water, with just the slightest of ripples that reflect the sun. Take your time and enjoy the scene that has appeared in front of you. Take in the smells, the feel, the breeze, the sounds, as that is all for you to hear at this special moment.
Now begin to hear what the noises are that are in this scenic vista spread before you. Do you hear something coming from the bushes or the trees or the water in front of you. Listen and listen with your inner self.
As you listen, the animals will start to draw your attention as they come forward from the most beautiful areas you are looking at. Look closely at the bushes, the tress and the water. What do you sense is coming out? Do you hear sounds? Do you see an animal? Focus upon the one animal you feel most drawn to. Is it from the bushes or peeking from the cave? Is it in the water making itself known to you? Is it in the trees or coming from the forest?
Do not be afraid, as these animals are not here to hurt you but to commune with you so you may meet them and listen to them. Slowly call the animal toward you, let it know you mean no harm, let it know you seek a message and want to become one with it. As this animal comes closer be not afraid to touch it, look closely at it or listen to any sounds it may make.
Spend some time with this animal. look into its eyes. Look at the animal as a whole, feel what the animal is giving you. Is it telling you something, is it giving you acceptance, are you accepting it...stay close to your animal and feel what it is feeling, listen to any messages it may have for you. Just be one with the animal.
After you feel you are done meeting this animal tell it thank you and tell it to go back from whence it came in soothing loving words. As you watch it return from where ever it came, absorb what that animal was and what you felt and learned from it and remember any messages it may have given you.
As the animal returns to where it came from, you slowly turn and start to walk back through the field of green grass and flowers, you pass the tree and give it thanks to Mother Nature. You continue walking slowly until you have reached the edge of the meadow where your journey began. You take some deep breaths and slowly come back to where you are sitting or laying before you started your journey. Be calm and peaceful for a few minutes as you remember your journey and the animal or animals you have met. Remember any messages they may have given you or any feelings or sensations you may have experienced. You have now ended your journey to meet your Animal Guide.
This is just a form of guided imagery meditation that can help you contact any of your Animal Guides or Totems. I hope you found this to be an enjoyable experience and you were able to meet your guide or totems.
