This is a Torii Gate – an entrance to a sacred site. They are generally made of solid old growth hardwood logs. It is more likely the foundation and construction methods that kept this gate from falling, rather than the material, though a solid log would have more structural integrity than a split or sawn log.

Mind I also reccon it was built by Chuck Norris or could be a japanese mc’donalds…or KFC!!! lol
