Herbs and Incense
Shamans use herbs and incense to clear and cleanse. When journeying they use sage to remove negative energys so they are able to journey in perfect peace and cedar is great for purifying they either smug or use in a sweat lodge by letting the cedar smoulder on the hot rocks, but what ever you use your herbs or incense for its wise to get some basic information so you get the right herb/incense before you start. Here is some basics to start you off :
SAGE
The term sage is a catch all for the main herbs used in spiritual cleansing.Sage has a transformative properties working on negative energies that are some how clouding an aura , it changes these negative influences to enable them to act for the benefit of the person place or object whose aura is being cleansed.
CEDAR
A purifying incense cedar is very beneficial for healing on both physical and spiritual levels. The small flat leaves can be burned alone or on a hot rock as in a sweat lodge- or on hot coals, they can also be mixed with loose sage into a ball for burning the sharp sweet smoke is very refreshing and calming having a uplifting effect on the spirit and enhancing clarity of mind.
SWEETGRASS
Sweet grass also known as Hair Of The Mother, Is often used to make braides to attract beneficail energies to the user, calling on spirits for strength and guidance. Making a sweetgrass braid is simple You can do this by using bundles of sweetgrass and plaiting them into long braids which produce a sweet smelling smoke when burned , where sage works upon influences that are already present in a person sweetgrass has the effect of attracting new energys. Shamans also used sweetgrass in their sweatlodges to invite spiritual allies to join in ceremonys.

Frankincense is great for meditation, also cleansing and clarifying properties.
